Kevin Walsh
A word from the chair of the Bolton Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.

This translates directly into the work we are doing within Bolton, campaigning for a more open, honest and accountable local council. Most recently we have been the only political party with councillors in the Town Hall campaigning against proposed fracking in Horwich, Westhoughton and surrounding areas. We are the only party pushing proposals to cut the number of councillors from three per ward to two per ward - saving more than £300,000 a year and making the council more accountable than ever. We are fighting for more public consultation on controversial plans - such as the recent decision to pour £3million into the short-sighted Newport Street revamp - and are pushing to allow more public scrutiny within all meetings.

If, like Bolton Liberal Democrats, you believe that you need to have a council that LISTENS to what you have to say; UNDERSTANDS the need for long-term investment to solve the problems within the town rather than short-term 'people pleasing'; and CHAMPIONS ALL communities within the town, bringing us closer together rather then encouraging divisions; then join us.

It's time we all worked together to #TakeBackOurTown

Tomorrow you can elect slim-bin loving @BoltonLabour and BoltonTories, or vote LibDem and call for a rethink to slim bins. #Time4Change

We need to rethink to the slim bins. Join our call to postpone the rollout until a full consultation happens https://t.co/6PUb3Z9Nvz

We, the undersigned, believe that Bolton Council are rushing through the slim bin proposals without fully exploring the potential effects it will have on local communities and without exploring other options. We are supporting the Bolton Liberal Democrats call to postpone the proposed roll out of...

The Bolton Liberal Democrats are calling for a postponement to the planned roll out of slim-bins across Bolton until a full public consultation has taken place and alternatives explored before a decision is finalised. We understand the need to both improve recycling rates which Labour have consistently failed to meet for the last decade but feel that the current plan is being rushed out without exploring all possible alternatives and without giving the people of Bolton enough say on an issue that will greatly effect them. Our proposed consultation would include a full online survey and invite people to put forward alternative proposals to increase rates of recycling; minimise waste; reduce fly-tipping and reduce costs in the long-term. Only with a joined up strategy that meets the needs of residents can we ever meet our responsibility to both the environment and our local communities.

The Bolton Liberal Democrats are asking for ammendments be made to the proposed Bolton Council budget being put forward by Bolton Labour. We think with a few tweaks we can easily fund a more robust road maintenance project; help and support for the homeless with a dedicated resettlement and employability project; start working towards bringing high-value industry back home to Bolton through a start-up competition; whilst cutting councillors to create a more efficient and accountable council - and saving £300,000 a year.

The LIberal Democrats are working hard for a fairer deal for Bolton. A more open, honest and accountable Council is at the forefront of all our policies with the residents having more say in the issues effecting them and the cost of democracy being reduced with less money being spent on Councillors and more going towards stimulating high-value industry and supporting the most vulnerable. Vote LibDem on Thursday and break the decade of decline under Labour and the failed opposition of the Tories. Together we can make a real change to our town.

Don't believe it when they tell you we can't win! In a week that saw 5000/1 odds outsiders "The Foxes" Leicester City win the premiere league, doorstep data shows that another "Fox" can really do what was thought impossible and beat the Conservatives in Astley Bridge. Canvassing data shows that there could be as little as 2% of the vote between the Tories and Liberal Democrats here in Astley Bridge this Thursday. You may not have been lucky enough to win a fortune by backing Leicester, but we can all be winners if you back Warren Fox this Thursday.

Be Green!, vote Lib Dem! Who's the greenest of the main parties fighting in the Bolton Local elections? These survey results from Friends of the Earth speak for themselves. more Lib Dem candidates in Bolton have replied to the FoE's request than any other three

It's nearly election time. But before you decide who to put your cross next too on Thursday we want to give you the opportunity to ask the Bolton Liberal Democrats your questions. Maybe you want to know more about our plans for town centre regeneration or job development? Perhaps more about funding plans or our plans to make the council more transparent? Whatever they may be just ask below and we'll answer them.

Want to know which of the party's support fracking? Lets take a look....

This Thursday if you want to support a party who both locally and nationally say NO to fracking - you only have one real choice! Vote Liberal Democrats and lets make Bolton a No Fracking zone! Bolton Labour may try and make you believe they're against fracking - but when the whip strikes from the head honchos in London they'll do what they always do, bow down and follow the party line. SAY NO TO FRACKING ACROSS THE UK - VOTE LIBERAL DEMOCRAT

A community page for the Smithills area run by the local Liberal Democrat Councillors

So the fantastic My Westhoughton, My Bromley Cross and My Astley Bridge community pages have a new baby sister! Say hello to My Smithills!

A BOLTON election candidate is being investigated by the Labour Party after failing to declare that he was struck off as a solicitor for theft.

At a time when trust in the Council is at it's lowest in a decade, it turns out Bolton Labour are fielding candidates who were struck off from being a solicitor for theft! Darren Whitehead, aged 47, who was an assistant solicitor at Fieldings Porter in Silverwell Street, was convicted of one offence of theft and four offences of false accounting. We need councillors who are open, honest and transparent. This is yet again another example of where the Bolton Labour Party are failing the electorate on all three!

Catchy slogan ahoy!

BOLTON Council has come under fire for proposing to build houses on areas of recreational open space through its private sector partnership.

Absolutely ridiculous that our Labour Council can just decide to put buildings wherever they please without any sort of consultation. This leaked document shows just how little they care about local people and local spaces. Make a change this Thursday and vote for a party that will give you back your voice.

Bolton Council seem to be refusing much needed investment into the town, if we would like to see more attraction to our town we need a new strategy!

Following the council's decision to refuse permission for an 'Escape Room' to be created in Bolton Town centre, My Bromley Cross candidate David Walsh is fighting to get the decision reversed - arguing that the only way to get more shops in the town is to increase regular footfall. And the only way to increase regular footfall is to give people a reason to go in the first place.

The residents of Bolton demand a full and through investigation into the planning process immediately and call on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to step in to ensure a full, proper and independent investigation is conducted to help alleviate the concerns of local residen…

Dear Bolton Labour We haven't forgotten the promise you made the residents of Bolton, even if you have. Give us a full, public, independent planning inquiry! Regards Bolton Liberal Democrats

What has long been a regular Tory seat since 1997, Astley Bridge has suddenly become a Bolton News "one to watch" these past 12 months. Why? Warren Fox! Everything Warren has campaigned on the Tories have followed to try and take credit. And now even Labour are saying that Warren could win. Let's make it so and give Astley Bridge a councillor that works for the all year round.

The floods and their cleanup are likely to play a part in people's thinking ahead of the local elections in Kearsley
