Kevin Walsh
A word from the chair of the Bolton Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.

This translates directly into the work we are doing within Bolton, campaigning for a more open, honest and accountable local council. Most recently we have been the only political party with councillors in the Town Hall campaigning against proposed fracking in Horwich, Westhoughton and surrounding areas. We are the only party pushing proposals to cut the number of councillors from three per ward to two per ward - saving more than £300,000 a year and making the council more accountable than ever. We are fighting for more public consultation on controversial plans - such as the recent decision to pour £3million into the short-sighted Newport Street revamp - and are pushing to allow more public scrutiny within all meetings.

If, like Bolton Liberal Democrats, you believe that you need to have a council that LISTENS to what you have to say; UNDERSTANDS the need for long-term investment to solve the problems within the town rather than short-term 'people pleasing'; and CHAMPIONS ALL communities within the town, bringing us closer together rather then encouraging divisions; then join us.

It's time we all worked together to #TakeBackOurTown

SHOCKED friends have paid tribute to a "fantastic and tireless campaigner" for charity who has died two months after having a leading role in Bolton Pride.

Our thoughts are with Darren's family and friends. As Volunteers Manager for Bolton's first Pride event and a tireless fundraiser he will be missed by many.

A MEMBER of Bolton Council’s planning committee has set out how he believes the forthcoming independent inquiry should proceed.

What do you think? How should this public inquiry happen? Do you have evidence you'd like to submit to an enquiry? http://m.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/14158403.Councillor_lays_out_his_vision_for_planning_process_inquiry/?ref=rss&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

I oppose the forced sell-off of council homes to fund an extension of Right to Buy and believe Britain needs to build more affordable homes to rent and buy.

Selling off all our social housing without adequate plans in place to replace it will lead to greater levels of homelessness.

The Oil and Gas Authority awards a raft of new licences to explore for shale oil and gas on the mainland of the UK, paving the way for fracking firms.

JUST IN Fracking licences have today been granted for exploration across ALL of Bolton and the surrounding area. Bolton Liberal Democrats will be continuing to put pressure on Bolton Council to prohibit fracking on any council owned land and we urge people to follow the team over at Bolton Against Fracking to find out about any events taking place. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35121390

Back in September Cllr Nick Peel hit out at the Bolton Liberal Democrats for daring to suggest that the Labour Led council was failing the people of Bolton when it came to economic regeneration of all areas of the town. Since then the £10million investment in Farnworth Market has been massively reduced and now this. What's plan B Cllr Peel?

"If young people at my school and others are to make a difference for good, then they need to be shown strong positive role models at school, at home and in the mosque on how to do this, and be given advice on how to live a life confident in their faith within and accepting of wider society.” Couldn't have put it any better ourselves.

Tim Farron has condemned the government decision to allow fracking in national parks and other sensitive areas, protected at Liberal Democrat insistence under the coalition. The change is being made by statutory instrument so that the House of Commons will not be allowed to debate it. Tim said The G…
