Donal O’Hanlon, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Bolton South East Constituency, has said that questions should be asked of the council and police over a series of arson attacks that have blighted Bolton.

In his latest blog he has said: “Since I decided to think of standing as a candidate for Bolton South East, I’ve been keeping abreast of events normally via the “Bolton News”. The number of arsons reported in those pages is truly staggering. Virtually every other day a new arson occurs to houses, cars, factories, bins or on open ground.

“I understand the fight that the Fire Service have, in trying to move from a reactive service to a pro-active preventative service, but what are the police and local council doing to reduce the numbers? In all the time I’ve been reading, probably once or twice have I seen reference to arson reduction programs. I recommend the public look over the pages in the next few weeks and start asking those who control the Council exactly what they are doing about this Bolton scourge!”

Eric Hyde tackles Little Lever's litter problem

Little Lever has become LITTER Lever – and Darcy Lever fares little better.

Eric Hyde has been getting his hands dirty with some of our area’s worst grot spots.

He has reported dozens of litter problems and says the problem needs tackling soon.

Eric said: “Residents are telling me there are particularly fed up with cans and bottles being found on grass verges and some roads.”

Eric has asked Bolton Council’s Environmental Services department to clean up the area.

If you know of a litter hotspot let Eric know.

Eric Hyde’s Lib Dem team has welcomed the news that the street lighting has been completed.

The old-fashioned lanterns have been replaced with more modern, energy efficient ones that are cheaper to run and last up to 25 years.

Eric said: “This is fantastic news for residents of these streets.”

Donal O’Hanlon, our Parliamentary Candidate for the area, added: “I am sure it will allow residents to feel just that little bit safer in the darker evenings.”

Eric Hyde’s Liberal Democrat team has received scores of complaints about the street lamp.

The old one was partially demolished and a new column was put up next to it. A hole has been left in the ground with an exposed cable (the end of which has been taped).

Now residents want to know if the lamp is going to be connected any time soon.

Eric said: “We have contacted the council to find out just when United Utilities will connect the new lighting column.”

New street lighting has finally been installed on School Street (Little Lever and Darcy Lever ward).

Residents may remember that the Liberal Democrat team told residents the good news quite some time ago through our Focus newsletter, pictured right.

Eric Hyde’s Lib Dem team is now pleased to see that the street lighting has been completed after an initial delay by the council.

Eric said: “This is fantastic news for residents of School Street.”

The Council has repaired a number of large potholes on James Street and Ashton Street.

It follows calls earlier in the year from Liberal Democrat campaigner Eric Hyde for action, after residents had complained to him about the poor condition of the two roads.

Eric said: “This is fantastic news for residents of James Street and Ashton Street.”

Donal O’Hanlon, our Parliamentary Candidate for the area, added: “The road was in a terrible condition previously. I am pleased Bolton’s Labour-run Council has finally listened to the concerns of the Lib Dem team.”

The steps run from Radcliffe Road up to Top Oth’ Gorses and Gorses Mount and last year, residents were plagued with slippery steps covered in autumnal leaves.

The problem has arisen again this year and Bolton’s Labour-run Council is being blamed for not acting quick enough.

Residents was to see the steps cleared more quickly. Liberal Democrat campaigner Eric Hyde has supported their demands. He said: “These steps could be lethal if they are not cleared regularly.”
